The last thing you want when you travel is problems at home. An ideal solution is to have your neighbors watch your home. This is a great option if you are looking for someone to do a daily walk-thru or monitor outside activity. If they volunteer to handle your mail, water your lawn, or do anything else, that’s a bonus. If you take them up on it but be sure to show your appreciation by returning the favor or offering to pay them.

There are several things your neighbor will need:

  • The house and any other necessary keys
  • A list of items to check
  • A list of contact numbers including those for your plumber and electrician
  • A signed letter stating that he/she is watching your home while you are gone.

Tip: If appropriate, show your appreciation by stocking your refrigerator with your neighbor’s favorite adult beverage. Those walk-thru inspections can work up quite a thirst.
