These tips are helpful during any season, but especially during the summer when everything seems more open and bright. Create a feeling of simplicity by decluttering and depersonalizing your home.

  1. Declutter

Check out your counter space. Are non-essential items filling the area and making it look cramped and small? Remove extra appliances from the kitchen and toiletries from the bathroom. Declutter closets to make them appear larger. If you are having a hard time, enlist the help of a friend who can see things you may miss as the homeowner.

  1. Depersonalize

As a part of decluttering, be sure to remove items that are too personal. Family pictures, collectibles, special knick-knacks and more can all be a bit distracting. It’s hard to imagine yourself living in a house that clearly being lived in by someone else.
